Use the Media Web Part in SharePoint Server

You use the Media web part to either display a video or play an audio file in a page. You can find the Media web part under the Media and Content category in the web part selection pane.

After you add the Media web part to a page, the web part is shown with a Click Here to Configure link in it, as shown in Figure 3.

Note

This web part uses Silverlight to play the audio and video and also to configure itself. If you don’t have Silverlight installed, the link to configure might not work.

When you click the link, the Media ribbon appears. On this ribbon, you can select the media file by opening the drop-down menu under the Change Media button and set different options for the media itself, such as whether it should start automatically and how it should look.

Selecting a media file (audio or video) is the same as selecting an image.

Tip

Media files, especially video files, are often big. You should take note of the size of a file before uploading it. If it is bigger than the size allowed by the system administrator, SharePoint prevents you from uploading it. If you need to be able to upload a large file and are unable to, you should contact your site administrator and ask for a bigger size quota.

When a file is selected, the web part allows users to click Play. Or, if you chose the option to start the media automatically in the Options ribbon (see Figure 4), it starts playing the file each time the page opens.
